Tamara Hamilton

(she/her)
“I am here to provide a space where you feel safe, supported and empowered to create meaningful change in your life. I take a trauma informed, client-centred approach to therapy ensuring I offer warmth and compassion whilst also supporting you to challenging harmful patterns and behaviours to support your growth and healing.”

I am an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker with extensive experience supporting adolescents, adults, and families who have lived through childhood trauma, abuse, and neglect. Over more than a decade in the public sector, I have developed strong expertise in trauma-informed care and in supporting people to recover following experiences of harm and adversity.

I regularly work with people navigating difficulties such as:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Relationship issues
  • Family conflict
  • The effects of complex trauma
  • Grief and loss
  • Identity challenges
  • The ongoing impact of neglect and abuse

I understand the profound impact that trauma can have on every part of life, including a person’s identity, sense of safety, relationships, and overall wellbeing. Experiences of abuse, neglect, or adversity can shape the way people see themselves and others, and often leave lasting emotional and psychological wounds. In my work, I approach these difficulties with great care and sensitivity, helping people heal from trauma, rebuild their confidence, and reconnect with themselves and those around them.

I provide a safe, supportive, and empathic space where you can explore your experiences without fear of judgment. This space is grounded in trauma-informed care and guided by an understanding of the unique challenges faced by individuals and families seeking therapy or counselling in Melbourne. My approach is collaborative and respectful, recognising that people are the experts in their own lives.

I walk alongside you in the therapeutic process, honouring your story and supporting you in ways that are compassionate, empowering, and focused on creating meaningful, lasting change. Whether it is working through trauma, managing symptoms of PTSD, or addressing issues such as anxiety, depression, or relationship stress, my aim is to provide mental health support that feels safe, affirming, and effective.

Therapeutic Approaches

Tamara is trauma-informed and client-led in her work, drawing from a range of evidence-based therapies that can be tailored to each person’s needs, including:

  • Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR): A well-researched trauma therapy that supports people to process distressing memories and reduce the intensity of PTSD and trauma symptoms.
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): A practical approach that helps people manage difficult thoughts and emotions while building a life guided by values and goals.
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS): A compassionate model that encourages people to explore and heal different “parts” of themselves, particularly following trauma or neglect.
  • Child Parent Psychotherapy (CPP): A relational therapy that strengthens the bond between children and caregivers, supporting recovery from early trauma and attachment difficulties.
  • Mindfulness: Strategies that cultivate present-moment awareness, improve emotional regulation, and build resilience in the face of stress and anxiety.
