Fees And Rebates

Every psychologist within our Melbourne Psychologist Services Team is eligible to provide treatment which attracts a Medicare rebate. This can reduce your out-of-pocket costs. Currently, 10 sessions can be claimed every calendar year. When you contact Cova Psychology for the first time, we will explore this option with you.

To be eligible for a Medicare rebate, you will need a referral from your doctor (GP, psychiatrist, or paediatrician). 

Most people obtain their referral from their GP, and as part of this process, your GP will complete a Mental Health Care Plan (if you are seeing a psychiatrist, only a referral is necessary). 

When you book in with your GP, let your GP clinic know that you are seeking a Mental Health Care Plan. This is because the process generally takes longer than a standard GP consult and as such, your GP may require a longer appointment booking.  

Your GP will then either provide you with the referral, or send it directly to Cova Psychology. If the referral has been passed to you, bring it to your first appointment.

If your referral was made to another psychologist, but you want to start using it Cova Psychology, you are able to provide us the referral without changing the name on it – as long as the referral is still current.

We encourage you to keep track of how many Medicare sessions you have used throughout the year. As a courtesy, Cova’s admin team will endeavour to support you with this process, and provide reminders when new referrals are due. Bear in mind that your 10 Medicare rebates are per calendar year, and do not accrue over time. At 1st January each year, your Medicare rebates return to a full quota of 10 available to access.
