Ravina Perera

“I believe that improving one’s wellbeing begins first and foremost with self-reflection and understanding, and I endeavour to provide the safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space in which to do this. I am passionate about creating an environment that is comfortable and relaxed, where individuals feel at ease and not intimidated. I aim to provide this through my therapy style which focuses on direct, gentle, and compassionate guidance, while including a touch of humour and openness.”

I primarily work with adults, with client presentations that include:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety disorders
  • Psychological trauma and trauma-related disorders
  • Stress and emotional dysregulation
  • Neurodivergence (ADHD, ASD)
  • Grief

I am a qualified general psychologist who works with a wide range of presentations and communities. I strive to create a safe, empathetic and approachable space, while adapting my interventions to be client-focused. I do this by tailoring my treatment to your goals and your individuality. My experience working in different cultural and social-economic communities has taught me how vital it is to incorporate each client’s unique position into therapy. This is also a concept I have learned personally, growing up as second generation Australian, and navigating the unique challenges and differences that arise when you straddle multiple cultures and identities.

I have a special interest working with trauma in all its forms and am trained in different modalities which allow me to help tackle the impact that trauma has had on an individual’s daily functioning, as well as their deeper sense of identity and relational patterns. I have a neuro-affirming approach and seek to ensure everyone feels accepted and empowered. I have experience working with varied neurodiverse presentations including ADHD and ASD.

Outside of work I enjoy reading (especially fantasy novels), writing poetry and short stories, and strolling through markets and op shops. I am a big foodie, and love to try various cuisines and restaurants around Melbourne. I am fluent in English and Sinhalese.
