Ruby Swaid

I am passionate about supporting people connect with their inner strengths. I do so by practicing through a compassionate non-judgmental lens, ensuring that therapy is conducted in a safe and transparent manner, where individuals are aware of their rights, treatment options and are able to openly discuss what works for them and what doesn’t. Working with me, I will prioritise your psychological safety, and join with you to help you heal, develop and meet your goals.

I am a psychologist (clinical registrar) with over 5 years of experience working in private practice, community mental health and private hospital settings. I focus on practicing therapy using a collaborative approach, to support clients achieve their goals in therapy and improve their overall psychological wellbeing. I believe that it takes incredible resilience and courage to ask for help when feeling stuck and overwhelmed, and that the act of reaching out is admirable.

Key areas of interest include:

  • Adjustment to life changes and transitions, stress and burnout
  • Communication difficulties
  • Depression
  • Emotional difficulties
  • Trauma including family violence, childhood complex trauma
  • Generalised anxiety, social anxiety and panic attacks
  • Grief and loss
  • Perfectionism
  • Self-development and self-esteem issues
  • Adjusting to a new country and culture
  • Working with people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
  • Job or study dissatisfaction

I am a curious, open minded and a non-judgemental person, who strongly values person-centred, as well as culturally sensitive approaches to therapy.  My clients can sense my authenticity when dealing with me and my strong investment in working together to help them achieve their goals in therapy.  While I am trained in a number of therapeutic modalities, my therapeutic approach can be best described as eclectic based on what the individual’s needs are, and what is best supported by the research. I will walk alongside you, supporting you to develop new insights, learn new skills and identify inner strengths to help you along your journey of healing and recovery.

I like…

  1. Spending quality (and quantity) time with my furry friends
  2. Having a laugh with friends and family (preferably over delicious food)
  3. Reading science fiction books
